Dividend Policy

Issue

            The shares in Pengrowth Energy Corp. were down almost six per cent Friday after the oil and gas producer announced that it is slashing its monthly dividend by 43 per cent starting next month.

The Calgary-based company said it was making the move to control their operations and minimize their productions due to weakness in both spot and forward commodity prices and the economy is not stable.

As a result, Pengrowth's monthly dividend will fall to four cents per share beginning with the August 15 payment.

Relevance

In order to Pengrowth Energy Corp. to achieve the growth, management proposed a strategy relying on Pengrowth Energy Corp. is slashing its monthly dividend by 43 per cent starting next month, as crude prices have fallen by 14 per cent this year.

 

In addition, a $200-million pro forma capital expenditure reduction that coincided with the $1.9-billion purchase of NAL Energy Corp. announced March 23.

The reduction of the dividend, in conjunction with the capital expenditure reduction and company ongoing hedging programs, it should enhance the company financial flexibility.

Analysis

Pengrowth is a pretty mediocre producer with pretty mediocre assets to start with and they've got too many of them. They have got so much on their operations that I do not think they have the capacity to operate all of them efficiently.

There are several advantages maintaining dividend policies are:

1. žThe dividend payout will provide a very strong signal to investors of true financial strength and of the credibility of earnings reports. 
2. A high dividend could attract investors to buy a certain company’s shares. 
3. The dividend policy could imply stock price in the future.

The company was not paying such a high dividend; they can have plenty of capital to start with, and plenty of opportunities to operate that at a better return.

Conclusion

1- The company needs to focus on the dividend payment to maintain their shareholders. Based on the advantages that the company can get with maintaining their payment of dividend which are;

• The dividend payout will provide a very strong signal to investors of true financial strength and of the credibility of earnings reports. 

• A high dividend could attract investors to buy a certain company’s shares.

2- Some analysts do not agree with the purchasing of NAL Energy Corp. which are cost $1.9-billion. The cost is too high for Pengrowth because

• —Pengrowth is a pretty mediocre producer with pretty mediocre assets to start with and they have got too many of assets.

Harapan Anak Muda

Assalamualaikum, pertamanya marilah mengucapkan syukur kepada Allah kerana masih diberi nikmat Iman dan Islam serta selawat dan salam kepada Nabi junjungan kita, Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. InsyaAllah untuk entri ini hanya serba ringkas tetapi diharapkan para pembaca dapat mengambil input walaupun sedikit.


Dr Muhammad Mursi diisytihar memenangi kerusi Presiden Mesir setelah beberapa abad di bawah pemerintahan rejim Hosni Mubarak. Alhamdulillah kita sangat bersyukur kepada Allah dengan kemenangan Ikhwanul Muslimin dan juga memeberi inspirasi kepada gerakan-gerakan Islam seantero dunia.

Dapat kita lihat dari gambar-gambar di Facebook yang mana masyarakat di Mesir bersujud syukur dengan kemenangan Dr Mursi dan bersama-sama kepimpinan Dr Mursi. Itu adalah antara asbab terbesar kemenangan Islam di Mesir kerana mendapat mandat dari rakyat. Tidak lupa juga kita di Malaysia, pemimpin yang dipilih mestilah dari kalangan orang-orang yang berkelayakan dan amanah. Tidak lupa juga ianya mendapat 'pengesahan' dari rakyat.

Dalam kita berbicara tentang amanah, suka saya memetik firman-Nya Azza wa Jal:
إِنَّا عَرَضْنَا الأمَانَةَ عَلَى السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأرْضِ وَالْجِبَالِ فَأَبَيْنَ أَنْ يَحْمِلْنَهَا وَأَشْفَقْنَ مِنْهَا وَحَمَلَهَا الإنسان إِنَّهُ كَانَ ظَلُوماً جَهُولاً

 (Surah Al-Ahzab,Ayat 72)

"Sesungguhnya Kami telah mengemukakan amanah kepada langit, bumi dan gunung-gunung, maka semuanya enggan untuk memikul amanat itu dan mereka khawatir akan mengkhianatinya, dan dipikul amanat itu oleh manusia. Sesungguhnya manusia itu amat zalim dan amat bodoh."

Para 'ulama menafsirkan ظَلُوماً adalah mereka ada ilmu tetapi bertindak zalim dan جَهُولاً adalah mereka yang tiada ilmu dan tidak berusaha mencari ilmu. Dalam erti kata lain, manusia mestilah mempunyai ilmu dan beramal dengannya.

Masyarakat hari ini sudah membuka mata bahawa keadilan dalam pemerintahan negara amat penting bagi menjaga kesinambungan kebajikan setiap anggota masyarakat. Masyarakat tidak hanya dahagakan duit 'ekspress' dan material semata-semata tetapi juga mengharapkan kejayaan di akhirat kelak. Non-muslim juga menaruh keyakinan kepada pemimpin Islam yang berintegriti kerana mereka percaya di dalam Islam  amat menitik-beratkan kepada keadilan dan kebajikan.

Oleh itu, saya menyeru khususnya para pemimpin agar dapat menjalankan tanggungjawab dan amanah kepimpinan selari dengan Islam agar kebangkitan Islam dapat dilihat seantero dunia untuk mencapai keredhaan Allah. Kami anak muda dahagakan kepada kebangkitan Islam agar diri kami tidak terjerumus ke lembah maksiat. Kami di peringkat anak muda juga perlu berperanan menjunjung aspirasi kerajaan Malaysia yang berlandaskan Islam dan menolak segala kemungkaran.

IMPORTANCE OF SILENCE

Assalamualaikum, first let's thank God for being given the blessings of faith and Islam and peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad saw. I would like to post this as short and precise, but it is hoped that readers can take input in the slightest.Silence is gold. In Islam silence is more than gold. There is a well-known saying of the Prophet Muhammad on the value of keeping silent.Solat is the main pillar of Islam, however remaining silent is better. Sadaqah will extinguish the anger of Allah, however remaining silent is better. Fasting is a shield against the fire of hell, however remaining silent is better. Jihad occupies a high position in the deen of Allah, however remaining silent is better.

The human experiences by reducing four of his habits: Socializing, eating, sleeping and talking much. Islam puts much emphasis on controlling one's tongue. Speech is one of that related to the spiritual heart. Generally useless talk is most of what we done. It is that which is said with little thought and less purpose. Even talking about religion can fall into this category. Many Muslims talk about God and Islam without proper knowledge.



I feel like I need to more on silence if I were no knowledge about the issues. Like we can look nowadays, many people want to talk and defend their stands even though it can bring more harm than good. I need to search for more knowledge to be more zuhud and prevent from riyak.

ISLAMOFOBIA: PERANAN ANAK MUDA ISLAM

InsyaAllah untuk entri ini hanya serba ringkas tetapi diharapkan para pembaca dapat mengambil input walaupun sedikit.

                Daripada pengisian yang diberikan oleh Suhaib Webb, adalah berkenaan praktikaliti bukan sekadar teori. Imam As-Syatibi di dalam kitabnya Muafakat menceritakan bahawa Nabi Muhammad s.a.w tidak menghabiskan masa memikirkan tentang teori yang tidak dapat dipraktikkan. Melalui sirah kita dapat lihat bahawa Nabi Muhammad s.a.w pernah bertanya kepada Malaikat Jibril tentang hari kiamat. Akan tetapi tidak dijawab oleh Malaikat Jibril. Apabila Baginda bertanya tentang tanda-tanda hari Kiamat barulah Malaikat Jibril menjawab pertanyaan Baginda.

                Pernah datang fulan bin fulan kepada baginda dan bertanya,"(متى الساعة يا رسول الله) Bilakah hari Kiamat, Ya Rasulullah?”. Dan Baginda menjawab “Apakah persediaan wahai fulan bin fulan?”. Pengkaji sejarah merumuskan bahawa Baginda memperlihatkan persediaan itu yang bersifat yang praktikal daripada mengetahui tentang tarikh hari Kiamat sahaja.

`               Justeru, Suhaib Webb memberikan method-method yang perlu untuk mengatasi masalah-masalah Islamofobia dengan ada 4 perkara iaitu;

1.       Pastikan penyerahan kita kepada Allah kuat. Apabila hubungan kita dengan Allah itu kuat secara tidak langsung, akan diterjemahkan dengan pertolongan Allah dan keyakinan kepada Allah bertambah.

2.       Komitmen anak muda untuk melakukan gerak kerja Islam. Muhasabi mengatakan “kamu tidak dapat apa yang kamu kehendaki selagi mana kita hidup dengan apa yang kita nakkan tetapi dan kamu tidak akan mencapai impian kamu kecuali dengan sabar dengan apa yang tidak disukai”.

3.       Kerja-kerja yang tersusun. Dalam kita melakukan gerak kerja Islam harus dipastikan bahawa gerak kerja hendaklah bersistematik agar apa yang dilakukan berkesan dan tidak sia-sia.

4.       Silaturrahim yang mantap. Harus dijelaskan bahawa bukan bangsa,suku kaum atau puak yang dipentingkan tetapi syariat Allah yang harus ditegaskan. Sebagai manusia, kita harus menerima kritikan, harus memberi kritikan untuk membina dan sama-sama bangun dan memperbaiki diri untuk kemajuan Islam.

Ibn Taimiyah menyebutkan bahawa, “aku menjadi orang Islam setiap hari”. Dan ada sahabatnya bertanya, “apakah maksudmu bahawa kamu menjadi Islam setiap hari?”. Dan Ibn Taimiyah menjawab “aku memperbaharui Islamku, memperbaharui hubunganku dengan Allah setiap hari”. Nabi Muhammad s.a.w mengajar satu doa untuk untuk kita hayati, (فسال الله تعلى مجددا لكم ايمانكم)“Ya Allah aku minta pada-MU agar ditetapkan dan ditingkatkan iman kepada-Mu Ya Allah”.

Saya antara aktivis mahasiswa Islam UIAM menyeru sahabat-sahabat saya terutama aktivis-aktivis mahasiswa di luar sana agar dapat menjadi pemimpin orang-orang yang beriman dan dapat menerajui kebangkitan anak muda dengan kesedaran Islam. Maaf kalau ada tersilap bicara. Segala komen dan cadangan amat dialukan. TAKBIR!!! ALLAHUAKBAR!!!

Anak Muda Ke Mana Halatuju?

Assalamualaikum, pertamanya marilah mengucapkan syukur kepada Allah kerana masih diberi nikmat Iman dan Islam serta selawat dan salam kepada Nabi junjungan kita, Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. InsyaAllah untuk entri ini hanya serba ringkas tetapi diharapkan para pembaca dapat mengambil input walaupun sedikit. Peringatan ini adalah perkongsian daripada Tok Guru saya. Terus kepada isinya adalah berkenaan TUJUAN KITA DIHANTAR KE BUMI oleh Allah.

Yang pertamanya adalah bertujuan اصلاح العقيدة, iaitu membetulkan aqidah. Untuk membetulkan aqidah ini adalah tidak lain dengan kesedaran individu Muslim untuk mencari Ilmu khususnya ilmu tauhid yang hanya dipelajari ketika masih di bangku sekolah rendah dan sekolah menengah. Kita sering melupakan perkara asas yang perlu kita pelajari dan hanya menganggap Ilmu Tauhid hanya untuk budak-budak sahaja. Kita harus menukar persepsi itu dan wajib untuk kita mempelajari selagi hayat dikandung badan agar bertambah kasih kita kepada Allah dan bertambah keberkatan dalam kehidupan seharian.

Yang keduanya adalah dengan tujuan تفهم الناس على حقيقة الاسلام, iaitu bermaksud memberi faham kepada manusia akan hakikat sebenar Islam. Hari ini kita dapat melihat bahawa mahasiswa khususnya dalam keadaan kecelaruan identiti sama ada inginkan kepada Islam ataupun Barat. Oleh itu, peranan semua orang yang bergelar Muslim wajib mendekati golongan ini untuk membawa ke jalan yang benar. Khususnya, kepada penggerak-penggerak MAHASISWA ISLAM agar memainkan peranan yang aktif dalam mengajak kepada yang ma'ruf dan melarang perkara yang mungkar.

Yang terakhinya adalah bertujuan رد الشبهة iaitu menjawab syubhah. Kita sebagai mahasiswa khususnya yang menjadi pendokong gerakan Islam harus mempersiapkan diri kita dengan ilmu untuk berhadapan dengan mehnah dan tribulasi di dalam perjuangan. Tatkala remaja dan belia lain enak dibuai dunia yang fana. Antara fitnah terbesar di akhir zaman adalah agama Allah dipersendakan oleh orang-orang Islam itu sendiri seperti yang berlaku sekarang ialah hukuman Hudud dipandang sebagai hukuman untuk orang-orang yang bersalah. Mereka hanya di satu sudut sahaja menyebabkan mereka memikirkan bahawa Islam hanya mahu menghukum manusia. Mereka tidak melihat hukuman Hudud sebagai didikan pada manusia bukan sahaja pada orang yang bersalah tetapi juga kepada orang-orang di sekeliling. Itu yang utamanya yang perlu dilihat oleh orang ramai. Oleh itu, aktivis-aktivis mahasiswa Islam harus menjadi agen-agen penerangan bahawa Islam adalah agama yang aman dan harmoni.



Saya antara aktivis mahasiswa Islam UIAM menyeru sahabat-sahabat saya terutama aktivis-aktivis mahasiswa di luar sana agar dapat menjadi pemimpin orang-orang yang beriman dan dapat menerajui kebangkitan anak muda dengan kesedaran Islam. Maaf kalau ada tersilap bicara. Segala komen dan cadangan amat dialukan. TAKBIR!!!

Apple iPad Review (2012)

With the introduction of every new product, Apple is expected to reinvent the wheel, and not without good reason. For over a decade, the company has refined or reinvigorated not one, but several product categories. But even the wizards in Cupertino cannot escape the natural ebb and flow between evolutionary and revolutionary iterations.

With a largely similar aesthetic design, a higher resolution display, improved cameras, LTE connectivity and more powerful innards, the new iPad is a solid update over last year’s iPad 2.

But is it enough to satisfy consumers’ demands for constant innovation, or, more importantly, stave off the advance of competing products? Only time will tell, but as it stands, Apple remains the unrivaled champion of the tablet market with its latest iPad.

The most notable feature of the new iPad is without question the new retina display. At a staggering 2048x1536, the 9.7-inch display now packs double the resolution of the iPad 2 (1024x768) and a higher resolution than just about every HDTV on the market (1920x1080). With a pixel density of 264 pixels-per-inch (ppi), the new iPad falls short of the iPhone 4S, which offers 326 ppi. From a user’s perspective, however, the difference is negligible, if not completely unrecognizable.

The retina display is not only a substantial improvement over the iPad 2, it’s one of the best looking displays on the market. The most immediately recognizable benefit of the new high-res display is crisper, cleaner text. Much like we saw on the iPhone 4S, lines of text and individual characters are so smooth that you can’t see a single pixel, even when fully zoomed in. The impact for images and other graphical media is dependent largely on whether or not it is presented in high-resolution.

Currently, the number of optimized websites and apps is small since the new iPad only hit stores a few days ago, but you can bet more are on the way. The iTunes App Store’s collection of new or optimized apps for the new iPad consists of 40 or so titles, including Flipboard, Twitter for iPad, Infinity Blade II, Modern Combat 3, Mass Effect Infiltrator, SketchBook Pro for iPad, Real Racing 2 HD and others. While each has been updated to render graphics and its UI at 2048x1536 resolutions, there aren’t any games that truly harness the power of the new A5X chip and 1GB of RAM in terms of advanced textures or more detailed characters and environments. At least, not yet.

Still, the very simple fact that the A5X can sufficiently output 3D graphics at such a high resolution without framerate performance issues is impressive. Games like Modern Combat 3 and Mass Effect Infiltrator look gorgeous and run smoothly, and load times are slightly faster.

After running GLBenchmark tests, I was able to get a better sense of how the new iPad compares to the iPad 2 and the NVIDIA Tegra 3-powered ASUS Transformer Prime. Unfortunately, the results cannot be considered an apples-to-apples comparison due to the fact that the GLBenchmark app runs at the native resolution of whatever device it is running on, thus making a standardized test impossible. All the same, despite running at a substantially higher resolution (2048x1536 vs. 1024x768 and 1280x800), the new iPad outperformed both devices. In the GL Benchmark 2.1 Egypt Standard test, the iPad 2 produced 6627 frames at a rate of 59 frames-per-second, while the new iPad ran 6633 frames at the same framerate. Comparatively, the Transformer Prime was only able to produce 5702 frames at 50 frames-per-second. With any luck, the GLBenchmark app will be updated to allow for set resolution testing but as it stands, we have only a rather vague sense of how powerful the A5X really is.

The introduction of the A5X processor, LTE networking and the retina display yielded two notable changes: a larger battery and, as a result, a slightly thicker and heavier design. In order to power these new power-hungry features, Apple ditched the iPad 2’s 25 watt-hour battery in favor of a 42.5 watt-hour battery, which bumped the overall weight of the device to 1.46lbs (up from 1.33lbs) and the thickness to 9.4mm (up from 8.8mm). Comparing the two devices side-by-side made the variations fairly noticeable, but in terms of real-life usage, there’s no considerable impact.

The benefit of the new larger battery is purely compensatory, and the overall battery life of the iPad remains unchanged at roughly 10 hours. Performance will vary based on settings and usage, but during testing I was able to achieve anywhere between 9 to 10 hours with Wi-Fi-only and 8 to 9 with 4G LTE with brightness set to about 60-percent.

Network connection speeds for 4G LTE models will vary by region, though in San Francisco, I was able to achieve downloads of up to 29Mbps and uploads of 16Mbps, which rivals or often surpasses broadband speeds. To sweeten the deal for users who were previously apprehensive about paying for a dedicated data plan, Apple has added mobile hotspot capability to the iPad. In the United States, the feature is only supported on Verizon versions of the device, though AT&T says they will soon offer the feature as well. What’s most exciting about the functionality is that it’s free to use with any Verizon data plan, whereas the same feature on your smartphone would require additional charges.

Apple has also upgraded the iPad’s rear-facing camera, which hitherto sported an abysmal 0.7-megapixel sensor. Now, the camera has a 5-megapixel sensor with the same image processing tech used in the iPhone 4S. While it doesn’t support high dynamic range (HDR) stills, it is now capable of recording 1080p video with image stabilization. In terms of image and video quality, the new iPad falls behind the iPhone 4S, but far beyond the iPad 2 and other competing tablets. What’s most confounding, however, is Apple’s choice to leave the front-facing camera unaltered at 0.3-megapixels. While a rear-facing lens is handy to have, the front-facing camera is critical for video conferencing. The front camera is still functional but the image quality is as grainy and uninspiring as ever.

The only software feature exclusive to the new iPad is voice dictation, which, like Siri, takes spoken words and converts them into written text. The feature is accessible as a microphone key on the on-screen keyboard and can be used in any app, first-party or otherwise, that uses text entry. Overall, the feature works well, though ambient noise and other factors could impact your experience. I found the feature most useful for quick drafts of tweets or emails, which I could then make quick formatting edits to.

What’s interesting is that voice dictation seems like a feature that could have been easily ported to older versions of the device via the iOS 5.1 update, but for reasons unknown, it’s limited to the latest model. The choice to implement only voice dictation and not the extensive voice-assisted functions of Siri is also somewhat odd. My first guess was that Siri’s need for constant connectivity to the Internet was a determining factor, but upon further investigation, I’ve found that voice dictation on the new iPad also requires a Wi-Fi or 4G LTE connection. When no connection is available, the dictation key disappears from the on-screen keyboard.

Several new and updated first-party apps accompanied the announcement of the new iPad, such as iPhoto and new versions of GarageBand, Keynote and others, but aside from retina display support, all are exactly the same and are available for older devices as well.

At the end of the day, what consumers are getting with the new iPad is a gorgeous new display with double the resolution of last year’s model, a powerful new dual-core CPU with quad-core graphics, 1GB or RAM, a new 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, voice dictation and optional 4G LTE networking with mobile hotspot support. If you already own an iPad or you weren’t interested in one before, the changes may not be enough to inspire a purchase, but for others, the new iPad is the best yet and is worthy of your consideration.

Figura-figura Mahasiswa

Assalamualaikum.Alhamdulillah, lama dah tak update blog ni. Untuk kali ini, aku hanya ingin berkongsi antara figura-figura mahasiswa yang dekat dengan aku dan yang boleh aku katakan yang aku kagum. Antaranya adalah saudara Zaki Sukery, Firwan Norliza, Adam Adli dan Safwan Anang. Masih ada lagi figura-figura lain yang lagi hebat daripada diorang tapi mungkin mereka dekat dan pernah bertemu mata. Mungkin itu salah satu faktor kenapa aku minat dengan diorang. Entri ini hanya serba ringkas sahaja.

Yang pertama adalah Zaki Sukery. Merupakan mahasiswa UIAM, mantan Presiden Ma'ruf Club UIAM dan mantan Timbalan Presiden GAMIS. Dia adalah seniorku di sekolah dulu, Maahad Muhammadi Lelaki. Mungkin sebab itu aku kagum dengan dia. Dia seorang yang berani ke hadapan untuk menyatakan pendirian untuk sesuatu isu tanpa teragak-agak. Fuhh!!! Gaya dia menyampaikan huraian jelas dan jitu.

Yang kedua adalah Firwan Norliza. Merupakan mahasiswa UIAM, mantan Presiden SRC UIAM. Antara faktor aku kagum dengan dia adalah dia seorang yang smart dan nampak profesional dalam melakukan gerak-kerja. Pernah lihat dia berbicara dalam Bicara Siswa dalam TV1, nampak ke'profesional'an dalam dia menjawab soalan moderator. Dan dari segi pengurusan, memang nampak dia pandai dalam mengendali sesuatu isu dengan cara diplomasi.

Yang ketiga adalah Adam Adli. Sebenarnya aku tak kenal sangat dia ni. Pernah jumpa banyak kali kat demonstrasi. Hee. Aku kenal dia sebab isu yang dia turunkan bendera NAJIB. Hee. Apa yang aku boleh katakan, dia ada idea dan dia terjemahkan dalam bentuk perbuatan. Tak ramai yang berani untuk terjemahkan idea dengan aksi. Boleh cakap mantap la kalau dia jadi speaker untuk demonstrasi. Dan dia berani tanggung kesan selepas itu.

Last but not least, adalah Safwan Anang. Merupakan mahasiswa UM, Presiden PMIUM dan Timbalan Presiden GAMIS sekarang. Dia ni pun lebih kurang Adam Adli jugak la. Berani untuk turun ke padang dan tidak teragak-agak untuk nyatakan sesuatu isu. Nampak la dia aktif dengan PMIUM dan dia dapat membawa PMIUM ni  boleh d katakan di peringkat luar kampus. Contohnya,dia jadi speaker untuk demonstrasi Prof Aziz Bari di UIAM atas nama PMIUM. Paling terkini, yang dia kena belasah dengan polis tapi tetap semangat untuk meneruskan perjuangan.




Tu je perkongsian aku untuk entri kali ni. Banyak lagi figura-figura mahasiswa yang lain. Hanya ingin berkongsi kekaguman aku antara figura-figura mahasiswa tahun 2011. Mungkin ada tersilap bahasa dan tersilap info, harap di maafkan. Terima kasih sudi membaca.
